The 127th IOC Session in Monaco has approved crucial recommendations by the IOC Executive Board chaired by IOC President Thomas Bach unanimously as part of the so called Agenda 2020. Especially “Recommendation 10: Move from a sport-based to an event-based programme” is important for baseball and softball.
This item allows local organizing committees to make proposals of one or more additional events on the Olympic programme for that edition of the Olympic Games. It is now expected that the Tokyo 2020 LOC will propose to add baseball and softball to the program. Afterwards the IOC needs to approve the addition at the next gathering in July.
Overall 40 recommendations will be discussed at the two-day IOC Session in Monaco. Topics not only include the Olympic programme, but also anti-doping, gender equality and the creation of a Olympic TV Channel. They lay out a roadmap for the future development of the Olympic movement.
