Mouthpiece.com recently spoke with former Major League catcher Mike Piazza. Jillian Jesk asked him about his take on International Baseball and a possible future without the Olympics. Piazza played in a total of 1912 MLB games for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Florida Marlins, New York Mets, San Diego Padres and Oakland Athletics over the course of 16 big league seasons. He retired last winter.
He was the Rookie of the year in 1993 and finished twice in second place in the MVP Voting. He was invited to twelve all-star games and is one of the best offensive catchers all-time. Piazza had a career batting average of .308 (OBP .377/SLG .545) with 427 Homeruns and 1335 RBIs. In 2006 he was a member of the Italian National Team at the inaugural World Baseball Classic. According to a few reports in the past months he is in consideration to be the hitting coach for Italy in the second WBC next March.
