Interview with Dominik Hartinger, Germany & Gauting Indians

Jakub Janda talked with right-handed pitcher Dominik Hartinger of the German national team and the Gauting Indians after the first game at the European Championship.

Dominik Hartinger: “We have great team chemistry.”

  • Pitcher – Team Germany
  • Bundesliga pitcher – Gauting Indians
  • Born January 26, 1983

Interview with Dominik Hartinger, Germany & Gauting IndiansJakub Janda: How would you describe the team from Ukraine? Hitters, defense, pitching?

Dominik Hartinger: They had some talented players and even though we scored four runs in the first they never gave up.

JJ: Today Germany is facing the Czech Republic. Please tell us your thoughts on Czech baseball generally. Do you know any Czech players personally?

DH: Germany against the Czech team has always been a great match up in the past and I am really excited about the game tonight. Especially seeing all the guys who play in the German Bundesliga compete in an international Tournament and against the German team.

JJ: Boris Bokaj is starting aganist you tonight. He is doing pretty good starting games for Regensburg. Please give us your expectations of tonight ballgame.

DH: Well on the one hand he knows some of the hitters he is pitching against what might be his advantage but on the other hand he never faced those guys combined as a team. The fact that we all played against him and Chris Howard is his catcher in Regensburg will help us too and get us a good scouting report on him. But as you said, he is a pretty good pitcher in Germany and I am excited about seeing him pitch against Marquez tonight. [The Q&A was made before the game against the Czech team]

JJ: What would your team consider a success? Is it winning a medal?

DH: Our team and coaching staff is definitely the best I have ever been on. We have great team chemistry, will play game after game and try to play as hard as we can.
We will see what happens…

Thanks.
