Defending Italian Baseball League champion Cariparma Parma started with a 4-7 loss against Unipol Bologna into the 2011 playoffs. On Wednesday Bologna won thanks to a three-run tie-breaking homerun by Julio Ramirez in the top of the ninth inning. Parma had led since first-inning RBIs by Orlando Munoz and Marco Yepez. But Fortitudo scored four times in the top of the sixth for their first lead. The rally was capped by a two-run single by Juan Carlos Infante. Parma was able to answer right away, evening the score on a two-run single by Leonardo Zileri. Victor Moreno (W) received the win after 2 2/3 innings of strong relief. Justin Cicatello (L) took the loss.
