The 2009 IBAF Baseball World Cup (BWC) will be held in Europe. This was confirmed by several press releases of the participating federations. More details will be known after a press conference next week on April 15th in Rome.
The plan for the BWC is the following. There are going to be five groups in five different countries in a preliminary round. The top teams advance into the second round, which is supposed to be played in the Netherlands and Italy. The third phase, from the quarterfinals on is planned to take place in Rome, Italy.
As hosts for the first part are already set Barcelona, Spain and Moscow, Russia. Regensburg (Germany), Paris (France), Prague (Czechia) and Stockholm (Sweden) are the four candidates for the remaining three occasions of this phase.
