After reaching the playoffs for the first time since 2001, the HSV Stealers part ways with head coach Shawn Pynn. The club announced the decision on Wednesday evening on the team website. The 29-year-old Canadian coached the Stealers for the last two seasons and transformed a relegation-threatened team into a contender for the playoffs. Hamburg won eleven of the 24 games during the regular season in 2009 and was eliminated by the Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg in three games in the quarterfinals. Pynn already resigned from his post in early December, but the club tried in the past few weeks to find common ground for an extension. The new head coach should be announced in the next couple of weeks. One of the names floating around in the rumor mill is Jens Hawlitzky, who coached the Dortmund Wanderers last season.
