Mr. Cocker HCAW stunned DOOR Neptunus with a 9-6 victory on Saturday afternoon in the Dutch Hoofdklasse. The team of head coach Ivan Rodriguez scored eight runs in the first three innings en route to the win. The top three hitters in the lineup, Jorin van Amstel, Sergino Martis and Linoy Croes combined to go 6-for-11 with four runs and seven RBI to spark the HCAW upset. Ivan Granados struck out seven in seven innings, allowing just two hits, a run and a walk. Tim Roodenburg took the loss. Dwayne Kemp drove in two for Rotterdam. Gianision Boekhoudt homered.
The Vaessen Pioniers remain on the winning track, edging out L&D Amsterdam 6-5 in 11 innings. An error by the catcher after a sac bunt in the second extra inning ended the game in walk-off style, as Phil Ortez crossed the plate. Both teams had scored once in the 10th. Amsterdam had forced overtime with Percy Isenia’s two-run home run in the eighth.
Corendon Kinheim prevailed 11-10 in a slugfest against Mampaey The Hawks. Kinheim led off the game with a six-run rally. But the Hawks countered with nine runs in the first three innings to get in front. Haarlem answered with three runs in the fourth to tie the contest and went back up with a sac fly by Jeffrey Arends in the sixth and a RBI single by Remco Draijer in the seventh. A RBI double by Shurendell Borgschot made things interesting in the bottom of the ninth. But a groundout ended the contest in favor for the reigning champion. Berry van Donselaar hit his first home run of the season, a grand slam in the second. Roy Seltenrijch scored three times for Kinheim.
UVV crushed the ADO Lakers 16-0 in the fourth matchup on Saturday. 11 runs in the fifth blew the game wide open and sealed the deal for the team from Utrecht. Seven players scored twice for UVV, five drove in two runs. Ian Delmarre and Oscar Meuris combined to keep The Hague to three hits and a walk in seven scoreless innings.
