The Dutch Hoofdklasse club HCAW Mr. Cockers has signed the Venezuelan shortstop Dirimo Chávez for the upcoming season according to a press release. The 26-year-old, who is currently playing in the Panamanian Winter League, is coming from the Spanish Division de Honor club San Inazio Bilbao, where played the past two years. The right-handed batter also spent three years five years in the Minor Leagues between 2001 and 2005 for the Boston Red Sox and New York Mets organizations (two years in Venezuelan Summer League, three in the US).
Chávez batted .396 (OBP .467/SLG .514) with one homerun, 14 doubles, 36 runs scored and 21 RBI in 36 games for Bilbao last season. He earned a spot on Team Venezuela during the Baseball World Cup, where he not only hit an eleventh-inning grand slam against the USA, but also hit .263 (OBP .323/SLG .474) with two homeruns, twelve runs scored and 13 RBI in 13 games overall.
HCAW also announced that Adrian Anthony will return for another season to play for the team of coaches Bill Froberg and Ronald Jaarsma. The 23-year-old outfielder batted .313 (OBP .374/SLG .389) with one homerun, a triple, five doubles, 14 runs scored and 19 RBI in 38 games in the Hoofdklasse last year. Before joining the club in 2008 he played for Neptunus and ADO in the Netherlands.

According to Baseball-Reference’s bio of Chavez, he played five minor league seasons, not three. See http://www.baseball-reference.com/bullpen/Dirimo_Chavez – he played in the VSL in 2001-2002, the seasons you left out in the above.
Thanks. But on his stats site only 2003 to 2005 is listed. http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=chavez001dir
The BR Minors site almost always leaves out Venezuelan Summer League and Dominican League stats prior to 2005 – and Mexican League stats prior to 2005 are very spotty as well. The BR Bullpen bios are more likely to include the DSL/VSL information for players that they have bios for, though they’re still missing a lot of players.
Alright, thanks for the heads up.
