According to report on Honkbalsite.com USA Baseball withdraws the participation of Team USA (Collegiate Level) at the upcoming World Port Tournament in Rotterdam, Netherlands and will be replaced by an All-Star team from the Great South League. Instead Team USA will play a series of exhibition games versus Japan from July 10th to 16th before making the trip to British Columbia for the World Baseball Challenge.
The Great South League is a collegiate summer league in Florida. Each of the 24 teams will select one player for the selection, which will travel to the Netherlands at the beginning of July. The World Port Tournament takes place from July 2nd to 12th with the national teams of the Netherlands, Chinese Taipei (already announced a roster), Cuba and Japan. Taiwan by the way had withdrawn their participation in the World Baseball Challenge recently.
