Grosseto and Nettuno complete sweeps on opening weekend

GROSSETO completed the sweep against the RANGGERS with an 8-0 shutout, their second in three games. Riccardo De Santis (W 1-0) cruised to his first win of the season with five scoreless five-hit innings, striking out six.
The offense provided the run support early. MONTEPASCHI scored four runs in the first three frames and added four more in the seventh. Luca Bischeri got two RBI. David Dallospedale scored twice. Raul Marval reached base in all four plate appearances, scored a run and drove in another.
Francesco Nardi (L 0-1) was charged with five hits, four runs and three walks in two-plus innings.

RIMINI avoided being swept in the opening series, beating CARIPARMA 8-1 on Saturday evening. Jack Santora hit a homerun, drove in three and scored twice in the victory. Alexander Juan provided two runs and two RBI, including a RBI-triple in the first. Claudio Signorini scored three times.
Sandy Patrone (W 1-0) allowed two hits and three base on balls in six solid innings. His counterpart on the side of PARMA, Filippo Mori gave up four hits, five runs (4 ER) and five walks in 4 1/3 innings.

FORTITUDO scoren four runs in the first two periods and hold on to the lead to secure a 4-0 shutout. Claudio Liverziani drove in two with a double in the first and scored the third run on a groundout by Richard Austin. Giovanni Pantaleoni provided the fourth run in the second with a RBI-single.
Cody Cillo (W 1-0) allowed five hits and three walks in five innings. Chris George (S 1) closed out the game with four innings of scoreless relief. Mattew Marrone (L 0-1) gave up seven hits, four runs (3 ER) and two bb in 3 2/3 innings.

BOLOGNA also took the victory in the second game on Saturday. The fans at the Gianni Falchi ballpark saw a game dominated by solid pitching performances of both clubs. FORTITUDO came through in the second with two runs on two RBI fielders’ choices by Daniele Frignani and Juan Angrisano.
They build up the lead to three runs in the seventh on a RBI-double by Stefano Landuzzi. SAN MARINO rallied in the eighth and cut the deficit to a run through a double play grounder by Max Di Biase and a RBI-single by Dean Rovinelli. But this was their last hit of the game and they lost the game and the series.
Fabio Betto (W 1-0) allowed just two hits and two walks in six innings, striking out six. Matteo Tonellato (L 0-1) surrendered three hits, two runs and four bb in five frames.

NETTUNO got the win after a slugfest in the afternoon session of their series against GODO. The home crowd get going, when their team took a fast 3-0 lead. But they were only happy for a few minutes. DANESI countered with eight runs between the second and the fourth and broke the game open. DE ANGELIS rallied in the eighth for three runs, but two more from NETTUNO in the top of the ninth secured the victory for the guests.
Andrea Castri’ homered twice, scored three times and drove in five for DANESI. Paolino Ambrosino added a homerun and got two RBI. Kyle Messineo, who was four-for-five with two RBI, smacked a homerun for GODO. Robert De Franceschi drove in two.
Giovanni Carrara (W 1-0) allowed six hits, four runs and a walk in five innings. Michael Nisco started for GODO, but lasted only two innings, giving up two hits, three runs and four bb. Cristian Torri took the loss.

NETTUNO nearly blew a 6-1 lead in the bottom of the ninth, but hold on to the victory to finish a sweep in their first series of the season. GODO took the lead in the bottom of the seventh with a leadoff homerun by Manuel Marussich.
This shot woke up the DANESI offense and they scored six runs in the next two periods. Renato Imperali (3-4, 2 runs, 2 RBI) hit a homerun. Frank Menechino drove in two. But the game was not over. DE ANGELIS started a comeback at the end of regulation, scoring four runs and threatened to tie the game. Marussich flied out to center with the tying run on third to end the contest.
Carlos Richetti (W 1-0) dominated over 7 2/3 innings with ten strikeouts. He gave up seven hits, one run and two walks. Lino Luciani (L 0-1) allowed two runs on six hits in eight innings for the tough loss. He struck out six.
