The 20-year-old right-handed pitcher Greta Cecchetti is currently playing at the Polk Community College (NJCAA Division I, Sun Coast Conference) in Winter Haven, Florida. The product of the Italian Softball academy in Tirrenia, Italy and member of the Italian Softball League club Sanotint Bollate enjoys a successful stint in the United States.
Cecchetti, who is the number one starter for Polk head coach Jeff Ellis is trying to lead her team to the College World Series, which are scheduled at St. George, Utah from May 14 to 16. Before that the regional finals take place in Aburndale, Florida (May 1-3). In 42 games so far, she has a 17-9 record with an ERA of 0.96 and 162 strikeouts (33 bb) in 183 1/3 innings.
She is at Polk Community College for two years now and is currently thinking about a third, according to the report by Riccardo Schiroli on FIBS.it. She hopes more Italian girls follow the same path and play in the United States. Cecchetti is expected to return to Bollate at the end of May for the stretch run of the championship.
