Giulio Montanini, who led Parma to its first national title in 1976, was appointed as the new head of player development of the franchise. He will oversee the program of all affiliated teams in the organization (Parma Baseball (IBL1), Junior Parma (IBL2), Crocetta, Collecchio, Colorno, Sala Baganza and Oltretorrente). The 62-year-old is going to coordinate the activities with an emphasis on the youth with the long term goal to constitute a backbone for the first team of Parma Baseball.
Montanini was born on January 21st, 1948 in Parma. The catcher played in the Serie A from 1965 to 1971. In 1975 he became head coach of the club, winning the championship one year later with a still-standing record of just three losses. He remained in this role for five years, collecting overall two national titles and two European Cups in this span. Between 1971 and 1982 he also was part of the technical staff for the Italian national team. From 1982 to 2000 he was responsible for the Junior National Team in Italy. Most recently he coordinated the youth program in Brescia.
