The German quarterfinals are in the books, as the favored teams all moved into the second round. The Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg and the Solingen Alligators both completed sweeps this weekend, edging out the HSV Stealers and Mainz Athletics in three games apiece. Regensburg was led by Evan LeBlanc and Chris Howard, who sparked the offense. Solingen saw Andre Hughes improving to 14-0 with yet another complete game. Also the Untouchables Paderborn and the Heidenheim Heidekoepfe advanced to the semi-finals. Paderborn allowed just one run in two games against the Haar Disciples to win their series 3-1 this weekend. Eugen Heilmann, Daniel Rahn and Brian Fields shut down the Haar offense. The Heidekoepfe needed a 3-2 nailbiter in the decisive fourth match against the Bonn Capitals to win the series 3-1. In the playdowns the Cologne Cardinals secured a spot in next year’s Bundesliga campaign with a sweep over the Dohren Wild Farmers.
