The playoffs in the German Baseball-Bundesliga are set. The Haar Disciples clinched the last spot on Thursday evening, edging out the Tubingen Hawks 3-2 in a make-up game of a July postponement. They will now square off with the Solingen Alligators in the quarterfinals, which start next week.
Christoph Ziegler drove in the game-winner, breaking a 2-2 tie with a RBI double in the top of the sixth. Tubingen just had evened the score on Deontante Hann’s RBI single in the fifth. Brian Fields, who threw 187 pitches in a win over Mannheim on Saturday, pitched another complete game on Thursday, allowing five hits, two runs (1 ER) and nine walks in nine innings. He struck out 14, throwing 93 of his 160 pitches for strikes. Joshua Hodges took the loss in a similar complete game performance.
Six more make-up games in the southern division will close out the regular season in the German Baseball-Bundesliga on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday the north takes on the south in the annual All Star Game in Bonn.
