The Bonn Capitals are one win away from their first German Baseball-Bundesliga championship in team history. They defeated the Heidenheim Heidekoepfe 7-4 on Saturday afternoon to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series.
After taking a 1-0 lead in the first, Bonn scored four runs in the third to decide the outcome early. Heidenheim was able to cut the deficit to 4-5 midway through the seventh, but insurance runs by the Capitals in the seventh and eighth sealed the win for player-coach Bradley Roper-Hubbert.
Maurice Wilhelm was the key to the game, pitching 6 1/3 solid innings, while driving in three runs at the plate. Eric Brenk contributed three hits and three runs including a solo home run. Sascha Lutz and Jay Pecci collected two RBI each for Heidenheim.
Game three once again was streamed live by Legionaere TV and for the first time simultaneously by the World Baseball Softball Confederation on their Facebook page with a potential reach of 300.000-plus likes.
