With their third one-run victory in four games at the Olympics Cuba stayed undefeated. They used a brilliant start by Elier Sanchez (W 1-0 and a late homerun by Frederich Cepeda to celebrate a 1-0 win over Taiwan.
Sanchez and his opposing starter Chen-Chang Lee (L 0-1) were locked into a pitcher’s duel from the beginning, exchanging zeros till the seventh inning, when Frederich Cepeda led off the bottom of the frame with his first homerun in Beijing. It was all Cuba needed to seal the victory in a low scoring affair.
Sanchez finished with seven innings pitched, allowing three hits and three walks, while striking out none. Norberto Gonzalez (S 2) relieved Sanchez and struck out three in two one-hit innings to complete the four-hitter. Lee made just one bad pitch in the 6 2/3 innings, he was on the mound.
