The Dutch Softball team celebrated a victory in their first game on their American Trip to San Francisco. They defeated the squad of the St. Mary’s College by a score of 17-8. They slugged four homeruns including a grand slam by Petra VAN HEIST (photo). She led the team with three hits, two runs scored and five RBI. Nina VAN HUISSTEDEN (three RBI), Jolanda KROESEN (three RBI) and Marloes FELLINGER hit the ball also over the fence.
Starter Anouk MELS allowed four hits, three Runs (1 ER) and two base on balls in 2.2 innings pitched. Kristi DE VRIES struck out nine in 4.1 innings of relief to receive the win.
It was the first match of 18 on their trip to San Francisco and Hawaii. They are facing the University of California team at Berkeley in a doubleheader on Tuesday February 19.
