Baseball.it reports that the Italian Baseball League team Fortitudo Bologna, which introduced four new faces recently, signed a promising infielder this week. Francesco ALAIMO joins them for the 2008 season.
He was born in Turin and learned his first steps with Juve 98. After a stint at the Serie B level (2002-2004) he moved to the Serie A2 team Riccione Baseball, where he played until last year. He hit .339 in 2007 with 31 runs scored and 21 RBI. ALAIMO began his career as a shortstop but switched to second and third base in recent years. He was at the hot corner in all 35 games for Riccione.
It will be the first time that he is competing on the highest level in Italy and it is going to be interesting how he handles the challenge.
