DOOR NEPTUNUS receives help for their offense right in time for the highly anticipated duel with CORENDON KINHEIM. The former Major Leaguer Ivanon Coffie was signed this week to a one-year-contract. He was born 1977 in Curacao and was signed by the BALTIMORE ORIOLES organization as an amateur free agent in 1995. He moved up through the minor league levels and reached the big leagues in 2000. He appeared in 23 games, hitting .217 (OBP .284/SLG .317) with four doubles, a triple, six runs and six RBI for the O’s. He later also spent time with the CUBS, CARDINALS and ASTROS organizations.
It is going to be his second stint in the Dutch Major League. He already played for ALMERE’90 in 2005 and 2006. He played in the Chinese Taipei Professional Baseball League in 2007 and wanted to stay there for 2008 too. But Coffie only played briefly for Dmedia T-Rex this season and returned to the United States. NETPUNUS saw an opportunity to strengthen the roster and signed him. He will arrive in Rotterdam this weekend and could make his debut on Sunday.
So, he will miss the first two games of the KINHEIM versus NEPTUNUS series tonight and on Saturday. The first match today in Rotterdam is also the first night game of the Dutch Major League this year. Kevin Heijstek (NEP) will face David Bergman (KIN).
The undefeated KONICA MINOLTA PIONIERS tries to defend their streak of four victories against MR COCKER HCAW. They have outscored their opponents 52-8. Fausto Alvarez and his 3-1 L&D AMSTERDAM PIRATES play against RCH MEDIA MONKS this week. And finally, ADO hopes for their first victory of the season in two games against SPARTA/FEYENOORD.
