FIORINI FORLI and DES CASERTA decided their best-of-five semi-final series in the Italian Softball League 3-1 against SANOTINT BOLLATE, respective EUROPROMO TITANO last weekend and have reached the Italian Softball Series, which will start on September 5th in Forli.
(3-1) Fiorini Forli – Sanotint Bollate 3-0, 6-3
FORLI took a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series thanks to a no-hitter by Kristina Thorson (W 1-0). She gave up just one walk in the third in a complete game shutout, leading FIORINI to a 3-0 win. She struck out 13. Sharonda McDonald, Michela Vitaliani and Tyleen Tausaga scored the three runs in the game. Kelly Hardie (L 0-1) issued four hits and three runs (1 ER) in six innings.
In the fourth match BOLLATE had the better start, scoring three runs in the top of the first for a fast lead. FORLI needed until the bottom of the sixth to find an answer. A six-run rally, highlighted by two RBIs apiece by Eva Trevisan and Carlotta Zauli, sealed the 6-3 victory and the trip to the finals for FIORINI. Leslie Malerich (W 1-1) gave up just three unearned on two hits and four bb in a complete game win, striking out twelve. Debora Moretto (L 1-1) allowed six hits, six runs and three walks in six innings.

(3-1) Des Caserta – Europromo Titano Hornets 6-0, 3-0
DES CASERTA reached the finals in the Italian Softball League due to two shutouts against the HORNETS. In game one Jennifer Davis (W 2-0) conceded just one hit and two walks in seven scoreless innings to lead the regular season winner to a 6-0 win. She struck out ten. Pamela Mazzarella went two-for-four with four RBI. Ashley Hamby had the lone hit for EUROPROMO with a bunt single in the third. She also took the loss, surrendering four hits, three runs and four bb in two-plus innings.
In the second match it was Lisa Birocci (W 1-1) who dominated on the mound, giving up only three hits and in seven innings. Birocci also drove in the first run of the game with a RBI double in the third. Francesca Seguella added two more runs with a triple in the sixth to finalize the 3-0 win. Laura Gerussi (L 0-1) gave up four hits, two runs and four walks in five-plus innings.
