Final: CBS Sant Boi (ESP) – Southampton Mustangs (GBR) 6-1
CBS Sant Boi defeated the Southampton Mustangs 6-1 in the final of the Federations Cup Qualifier in Sant Boi, Spain on Saturday afternoon. With the victory Sant Boi clinched a spot for the Royal Spanish Baseball and Softball Federation (RFEBS) in next year’s Federations Cup.
Alex Flores got Sant Boi ahead in the third, when he scored through a wild pitch. Southampton, which had lost the preliminary match between the two teams 5-25 on Thursday, tied the game thanks to a RBI double by Maikel Azcuy in the fifth. However the hosts of the tournament regained the lead in the bottom half of the same frame on a RBI single by Daniel Martinez.
Martinez with a RBI double and Edison Valerio with a two-run home run extended the gap to four runs in the seventh. An error provided the sixth run in the eighth.
Zael Honora went the distance on the mound. He allowed just four hits, a run and nine walks in nine innings. He struck out 15 and threw 173 pitches in the complete game. Rei Martinez conceded two hits, two runs and five base on balls in 4 1/3 innings to take the loss.
