As already mentioned in the article about this year’s transfers within in the Dutch Hoofdklasse, the big surprise shortly before the deadline was the name of Cuban slugger Fausto Alvarez. The 48-year-old leaves 2008 champion L&D AMSTERDAM PIRATES. Thanks to Marco Stoovelaar we got word, where he is going.
He will continue his active career with UVV in the Dutch First Division, which is one league below the Hoofdklasse. The club from Utrecht finished in second place during the 2009 season, winning 28 games, while losing ten. They also acquired outfielder Glenn Romney of KONICA MINOLTA PIONIERS for next year’s campaign and hope to make a run for the Hoofdklasse.
Alvarez played for the PIRATES in the Dutch elite league since 2006 and batted .325 with 24 homeruns and 127 RBI in 149 games since.
