All current major or minor league players developed in European baseball are listed here. The short season and rookie leagues are underway, now that the MLB amateur draft is complete. This gives us a lot more European players to follow for the next couple of months.
MLB-
Didi Gregorius, Arizona Diamondbacks. Netherlands.
Current team: Arizona Diamondbacks (MLB)
The 24 year old Amsterdam native has logged 13 big league games since being recalled earlier this month. The D-backs still have a logjam at shortstop, so he’s played some second base, third base, and has been working out in center field. He’s hitting .196 with a .296 OBP and 2 home runs.
Roger Bernadina, Cincinnati Reds. Netherlands.
Current team: Cincinnati Reds (limbo)
On Saturday Bernadina was designated for assignment for the second time this season. If he clears waivers, he’s likely to join German Donald Lutz in Louisville. He could also be released, or claimed off waivers by another team willing to place him on their 40-man roster. Bernadina was hitting .153 in 59 MLB at-bats.
Triple A-
Kai Gronauer, New York Mets. Germany.
Current Team: Las Vegas 51’s (AAA)
Gronauer is again on the 7-day disabled list, but has appeared in 8 games over the last month. He’s hitting .167 with a home run in 17 games, 24 at bats.
Alex Liddi, Los Angeles Dodgers. Italy.
Current team: Albequerque Isotopes (AAA)
Liddi now has 30 games played in the Dodgers system. His average is .243 with 5 home runs. He has a .355 on base percentage.
Donald Lutz, Cincinnati Reds. Germany.
Current team: Louisville Bats (AAA).
The 25-year old was sent down to Louisville two weeks ago after seeing limited action in Cincinnati as injury cover. He’s hitting .146 in his last 10 games in Triple-A, striking out 20 times.
Single A-
Lars Huijer, Seattle Mariners. Netherlands.
Current team: Clinton LumberKings (A)
The 20 year old Haarlem native remains in the Clinton starting rotation, and has many more good starts than bad. He’s given up more than 3 runs in a start only twice since May 1st. He stands at 3 wins and 5 losses, with an ERA of 4.39. He’s got 43 Ks and 29 walks through 65.2 innings.
Max Kepler, Minnesota Twins. Germany.
Current team: Fort Myers Miracle (High-A)
Kepler missed two weeks this month with an injury, but has 5 hits in 4 games since returning – including a home run in his first game back. He is hitting .229/.320/.365 in 170 at bats, with 3 home runs and 3 stolen bases.
Dovydas Neverauskas, Pittsburgh Pirates. Lithuania.
Current team: West Virginia Power (A)
The 21 year old Vilnius native is 3-5, 6.55 ERA in 13 starts. He’s thrown 55 innings, with 36 strikeouts and 29 walks.
Short season A –
Federico Castagnini, Baltimore Orioles. Italy.
Current team: Aberdeen Ironbirds (Short-A)
After 100 at bats in a full season league, the 23-year old was reassigned to short-A Aberdeen as their season began. He’s hitting .125 in his first 5 games there, after hitting .234 through his first 33 games at the higher level.
Martin Cervenka, Cleveland Indians. Czech Republic.
Current team: Mahoning Valley Scrappers (short-season A)
The Kotlarka Praha alum has 2 hits and 3 walks in his first 4 games as a Scrapper.
Marek Minarik, Pittsburgh Pirates. Czech Republic.
Current team: Jamestown Jammers (short-A)
The Louny righty is 0-1 in two starts, with a 2.25 ERA in 8 innings. His given up 3 hits, 2 runs, and walked 7 while striking out 5.
Andy Paz, Oakland Athletics. France.
Current team: Vermont Lake Monsters (short-A)
Paz got 57 at bats to start the season at the next highest level, but was reassigned one month ago and has now played 5 games since Vermont’s season began. He’s hitting .105 with a double in those 5 games, .145/.241/.184 overall for the season.
Rookie –
Nick Urbanus, Texas Rangers. Netherlands.
Current team: AZL Rangers (rookie)
Urbanus is officially on a rehab assignment, making his first appearance in awhile Sunday and racking up a pair of hits. He had 23 games at the higher full-season level before being reassigned.
Daniel Arribas, Pittsburgh Pirates. Netherlands.
Current team: Bristol Pirates (rookie)
The 21 year old catcher moves up after hitting over .300 the last two seasons, and has 4 hits in his first 3 games in Bristol.
Maik Ehmcke, Arizona Diamondbacks. Germany.
Current team: Missoula Osprey (rookie)
The former Wild Farmer has a two hits and a stolen base in his first four games as a professional.
Rachid Engelhardt, Baltimore Orioles. Netherlands.
Current team: DSL Orioles (rookie)
The 18 year old outfielder has now played 9 games in the Dominican. He has 7 hits, including two triples, with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts.
Marten Gasparini, Kansas City Royals. Italy.
Current team: Burlington Royals (rookie)
The shortstop has his first 15 professional at-bats, hitting .400 with a stolen base and an RBI.
Jakub Izold, Cincinnati Reds. Slovakia.
Current team: AZL Reds (rookie)
The 19 year old lefty made his first appearance of the year Sunday, giving up two runs in 1.2 innings while striking out two and walking two.
Julsan Kamara, Philadelphia Phillies. Germany.
Current team: DSL Phillies (rookie)
The 18 year old outfielder had his first 8 professional at bats this week. He’s walked once, stolen a base, and scored two runs.
Mattia Mercuri, Atlanta Braves. Italy.
Current team: DSL Braves (rookie)
The second baseman has logged 9 games in the Dominican, hitting .250, with 3 of his 6 hits going for extra bases.
Alberto Mineo, Chicago Cubs. Italy.
Current team: AZL Cubs (rookie)
The lefty-swinging catcher made his season debut Saturday, going 3-for-4 with a walk.
Milan Post, Milwaukee Brewers. Netherlands.
Current team: AZL Brewers (rookie)
The Dutch catcher made his pro debut last week, getting one hit in four at-bats in Arizona.
Daniel Thieben, Seattle Mariners. Germany.
Current team: Pulaski Mariners (rookie)
The 20 year old righty has one appearance, tallying an unearned run on no hits, walks, or strikeouts in 1.2 innings.
