The European Championship C-Pool in Ljubljana, Slovenia continued on Wednesday with day three of the preliminary phase. Norway moved into first place in the standings with a 10-3 win over Finland. Host Slovenia picked up their first win in the tournament with a 11-3 victory against Ireland.
Finland – Norway 3-10
In the morning game in Ljubljana Norway prevailed 10-3 over Finland. Norway scored in six of the nine innings played en route to the victory. Steffen Torgersen went the distance on the mound, allowing five hits, three runs and four walks. He struck out 11 and also hit a home run. Eight different Norge players crossed the plate for runs. Timo Muro homered for Finland. Heedo Lee conceded six hits, five runs and a base on balls in three-plus innings to take the loss.
Slovenia – Ireland 11-3
In the early evening game Slovenia downed Ireland 11-3 to improve to 1-1 in the event. Slovenia took the lead with a three-run third. Five runs in the seventh blew the score open and sealed the victory. Tadeh Brelih and Ziga Strukelj combined to drive in four. Grega Valancic surrendered three hits, three runs (2 ER) and seven base on balls in nine innings to pick up the win. Daniel Woodburne issued seven hits, five runs and a walk in 3 2/3 innings to take the loss.
