The Spanish national team defeated Switzerland 3-2 on Saturday morning in Montjuic to sweep the best-of-three series and to remain in the A-Pool for the 2012 European Championship in the Netherlands. A two-run single by Jose Luis Riera tied the game in the sixth. A sac fly by Nestor Perez one inning later plated the winning run. Remigio Leal (W) struck out six in four one-hit innings of relief to pick up the win. Lukas Croton (L) took the loss after six-plus strong innings. The Swiss national team had reached the finals with a 9-2 win over Hungary on Friday. Riera later also was named MVP of the Qualifier. His teammate Marc Carrillo was the Best Batter. J.T. O’Leary received Best Pitcher honors.
