Great Britain is going to finish the 2012 European Championship in 11th place in the final standings. They defeated Russia 6-2 on Wednesday afternoon in Rotterdam. Still, both teams have to play relegation tournaments next summer. The British team, which will participate in the World Baseball Classic Qualifier in Regensburg next week, decided the outcome with three runs in the top of the fifth. Two runs scored on an error, while Chris Falls capped the rally with a RBI double.
Matt McGraw hit an inside the park homerun and drove in three runs overall. Benjamin Pearson had a successful debut for the national debut, going 5 2/3 innings to allow just three hits, two runs and four walks. Alex Smith closed it out for the save. Niko Chermoshentsev was charged with the loss, issuing eight hits, four runs and three base on balls in five innings.
Russia concluded the 2012 European Championship with a 0-6 record in 12th place.
