Germany has evened its record in the second round of the 2012 European Championship. They defeated Sweden 10-3 on Friday afternoon in Rotterdam to pick up their second win. Three runs in the second and fifth and four in the sixth sealed the deal for the squad of manager Greg Frady.
Designated hitter Chris Howard tripled and drove in three. Kai Gronauer hit his second homerun of the tournament. Leadoff hitter Lukas Jahn walked four times and reached base in each of his five plate appearances. He, Jendrick Speer and Max Kepler scored twice. Philip Gajzler continued his strong European Championship with two runs for Sweden.
On the mound Andre Hughes picked up his first win, allowing three runs (2 ER) on eight hits in seven innings. Christian Decher closed it out with a pair of scoreless frames. Jakob Claesson was charged with the loss, issuing three hits, three runs and six walks in 3 1/3 innings.
Germany now will play for the bronze medal in their last second-round game on Saturday evening in Haarlem against Spain.
