Bern Cardinals – Unipol Bologna 2-9
Unipol Bologna celebrated a 9-2 victory over the Bern Cardinals on Friday morning at the European Cup in Regensburg, Germany. It was their fourth win in as many games for Fortitudo, which continues to stay on course for the finals.
Bern only was able to play at par with Bologna in the first inning of the game, when Marcos Paulino answered Juan Carlos Infante’s leadoff home run with a solo shot by his own and Vitus Huber scored on a double play grounder. It was a short-lived lead, as Unipol answered with two runs in the top of the second and plenty of insurance runs until the ballgame call at the end.
Francesco Fuzzi went 4-for-5 with four RBI, including the go-ahead hit in the second. Daniele Malengo scored three times. Mattia Barbaresi allowed five hits, two runs and a walk in six innings for the win. Junior Oberto closed it out. Albert Marsnik issued three hits, eight runs (7 ER) and four base on balls in six-plus frames to take the loss.
