Academica de Coimbra – Oslo Pretenders 6-3
In a duel between winless teams Academica de Coimbra needed just one big frame to beat the Oslo Pretenders 6-3 on Wednesday morning at the European Cup Qualifier in Solingen. After Oslo had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth on a throwing error during a pickoff attempt, Coimbra plated six runs in the fifth to decide the outcome of the contest. RBI singles by Joao Castro and Petr Stribrcky put them ahead. A hit by pitch with the bases loaded forced in another run before Rui Costa blew things open with a three-run double. The Pretenders answered right away in the sixth, cutting the deficit to three runs, but Stribrcky entered the mound for winning pitcher Jorge Hurtado (W 1-0) in the top of the seventh to close it out.
Therwil Flyers – MGPU SYOS #42 12-3
The Therwil Flyers scored six runs in the second and five in the sixth in a 12-3 win over MGPU SYOS #42 on Wednesday. It was the third victory for the Swiss champion in the third game. Lukas Croton (W 1-0) went the distance, allowing five hits, three runs and two bb, while striking out nine. On offense JB Tucker went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI. Five players from Therwil scored twice in the game. Nikol Chermoshentsev (L 0-1) took the loss.
Demony Miejska Gorka – Solingen Alligators 2-17 (5)
European Cup Qualifier host Solingen Alligators missed out on a third straight no-hitter, but still won easily 17-2 in five innings against Demony Miejska Gorka. The German Baseball-Bundesliga club scored eight runs in the opening frame and added three runs apiece in the second, third and fourth. Julian Steinberg drove in four. Dustin Hughes and Patrick Kanthak each scored three times. Robin Drache started for Solingen, allowing three hits and a run in three innings, striking out six. Dennie Andresen (W 1-0) received the win. Cezary Hryniowsky (L 0-1) took the loss after being charged with six hits, eleven runs (8 ER) and six bb in two innings.
