EC Qualifier Antwerp: Recap Day 5

Schwaz Tigers – Nada SSM Split 2-12 (8)

Nada SSM Split finished the European Cup Qualifier in Antwerp with a 12-2 win in eight innings over the Schwaz Tigers. It was their third victory in the fifth game, which will get them third place in the final standings. Ivan Racic went 4-for-4 with two doubles and three runs scored. Marin Tadic (W 2-0) allowed seven hits, two runs and two walks in seven innings for the win. Matthias Mayr (L 0-1) gave up nine runs (5 ER) on eleven hits and a bb in three innings to take the loss.

AS Spartakos Glyfadas – BK Vojvode 7-6

After losses on the first four days of competition, AS Spartakos Glyfadas picked up their first win of the week with a 7-6 nail biter over BK Vojvode. Five combined runs in the fifth and the sixth put the Greek team in front by four runs. Vojvode started a rally in the eighth, cutting the deficit to a run, but were denied to complete the comeback. Michael Kalis (W 1-1) came in for Glyfadas in the second and struck out 13 batters over the remaining eight innings for the win. Danijl Kozak (L 0-2) took the loss.

Port of Antwerp Greys – Technika Brno 2-7

Technika Brno is only one win away of winning the European Cup Qualifier, defeating the Port of Antwerp Greys 7-2 in the last preliminary round match on Friday. Both teams will continue the best-of-three final series on Saturday, determining the winner of the tournament. Technika broke a 1-1 tie in the fourth, scoring two runs on a RBI double by Jiri Marek and a RBI groundout by Martin Zelinka. One frame later Ryan Murphy extended the lead to five runs with a three-run homerun to left center. Kevin Roevens had three hits for the Greys, which couldn’t come back. Trevor Caughey (W 1-0) allowed ten hits, two unearned runs and two walks in nine innings, striking out seven. Dennis van Hoof (L 1-1) issued eight hits, seven runs and three bb in also nine innings of work.
