EC Nettuno: Rouen also beats Amsterdam, More Rain OutsAfter shutting out the TENERIFE MARLINS in the morning, the HUSKIES turned to their offense in the afternoon to defeat L&D AMSTERDAM 8-5 in a rain-shortened match. The PIRATES are now 1-1 in the tournament. All other games, which were scheduled in Anzio and Nettuno on Wednesday had to be cancelled and will be made up on Thursday.

The Dutch champion actually got off to a good start into the game, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, when Wesley Connor scored on a sac fly by Marvin Bleij. However their French counterpart didn’t wait long to erase the deficit and to decide the outcome early. Dodgers Minor Leaguer Joris Bert tied the game with a solo homerun over the right field fence. But it was only the beginning.

The first seven batters of ROUEN reached, plating a total of four runs in the opening frame, even leaving the bases loaded at the end. They added three more runs until the end of the fourth for a 7-1 lead. AMSTERDAM was able to rally in the fifth and sixth, but it was too little too late, as the rain put an early end to the game.

Dany Scalabrini went three-for-three with a walk and three runs scored. David Gauthier drove in three. Luc Piquet scored twice for the HUSKIES. Sidney de Jong reached home twice for L&D. Bas de Jong got two RBI.

Robin Roy (W 1-0) wasn’t as dominant as Keino Perez in the morning. He had big troubles, finding the strike zone and nearly blew the commanding lead. He allowed five hits, five runs (1 ER) and seven base on balls in 5 1/3 innings. He struck out five. T.J. Stanton made his debut and got the final two outs, but only after both inherited runners scored.

On the opposing side, starter Scott Ronnenbergh (L 0-1) didn’t even register one out, giving up three hits, four runs (3 ER) and a walk, before being replaced in the first by Mark Kan.
