Dutch Hoofdklasse champion L&D AMSTERDAM defeated their German counterpart BUCHBINDER LEGIONAERE on Saturday in Nettuno 8-4 and qualified for the European Champions Cup in Barcelona (June 20/21) as first team. They won four of the five games this week.
After the game went back and forth in the first three frames, the PIRATES blew the score wide open in the seventh with a four-run rally, extending the lead from one run to five. AMSTERDAM also profited from a bunch of errors, which caused six unearned runs. Wesley Connor, Mikael Benner, Sidney and Bas de Jong each scored twice for L&D. Klaus Hopfensperger hit a solo homerun for the LEGIONAERE. Michael Weigl drove in two.
Jose de Jong (W 1-0) picked up the win with seven solid innings. He allowed four hits, three runs and five walks, while striking out one. Eddie Aucoin (L 0-2) gave up four runs (2 ER) on five hits and a bb in three innings.
