With both teams already qualified for the decisive classification games on Saturday the result was only important for the seeding of the teams. SAN MARINO didn’t waste time to clinch the first seed in Pool A of the European Cup in Matino, scoring seven runs in the first two innings en route to a 12-0 shutout against the FC BARCELONA.
Dean Rovinelli was responsible for the early highlight, smacking a pitch over the fence for a three-run homerun in the second. He and Max De Biase, who was four-for-five, each drove in four. Francesco Imperiali scored an unbelievable five times during the seven-inning game. Jason Friedman had two of the four hits of BARCELONA.
On the mound Tiago Da Silva (W 1-0) and William Lucena combined to allowed just four hits in seven innings, striking out nine. Juan Mayoral (L 0-1) got the start for the Spanish vice champion, giving up eight hits, seven runs and two bb in two innings.
On Saturday the FC BARCELONA with Pedro Belmonte on the mound will take on FORTITUDO BOLOGNA. T&A will face CORENDON KINHEIM. The two winners will advance to the European Champions Cup, which is played in June in Barcelona, Spain.
