The Czech champion DRACI BRNO avoided relegation at the European Cup in Matino with a 5-1 victory over TEMPLIERS SENART. The French team now has to play against the Pool B champions this summer for a spot in next year’s European Cup.
SENART had the better start on Saturday, taking the lead in the first thanks to a RBI single by Ernesto Martinez. However it should be the lone run for the club. AVG DRACI came back in the fourth, turning the score into their favor with RBI singles by Radim Chroust and Tomas Cervinka.
They held on to the one-run lead until the ninth, when they added three more runs to make life easier for their pitchers. Karel Hrusovsky drove in a run with a single. Jan Jablonka and Tomas Polansky walked with the bases loaded to force in two more runs.
Radek Prochazka started and allowed one run on three hits in four innings. Leos Kubat received the win for three innings of one-hit relief. Former minor leaguer Jakub Toufar struck out three in the last two frames for the save. Samuel Meurant (L 0-2) induced two runs on seven hits in seven innings, striking out five.
