A solo homerun by Robert Gruber in the bottom of the eighth saved a 10-9 win over France. It was the fourth victory in the fourth game. On Wednesday at 5.30pm CET in Heidenheim they will play for the first seed in Group A against the Netherlands. Germany had taken a 5-1 lead after four innings, but France put eight runs on the board in the top of the fifth. However Greg Frady’s squad answered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth and the tying run in the sixth.
Gruber went 3-for-4 with a triple shy of the cycle, driving in five runs. Dominik Wulf, Ludwig Glaser, Simon Guehring and Cedric Bassel scored two runs each. Boris Marche drove in three for France. Gaspard Fessy went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Both starting pitchers, Nicolas Dubaut and Martin Dewald, only stayed on the mound for 4 1/3 innings, surrendering eight runs (7 ER), respective six (5 ER) on seven hits.
