em-logo-2016Germany beat Great Britain 3-2 in a tight ball game on Sunday afternoon in Group A at the European Championship. Team GB took a 2-1 lead in the third. However Germany came back. In the fifth they tied the contest at 2-2 and then plated the game-winner in the seventh.

Germany started the game with a bases-loaded, no-out situation. However only Max Boldt scored as a double play killed the potential big inning. In the third German Baseball-Bundesliga players Nate Thomas and Richard Klijn put Great Britain in front 2-1 with a RBI single and a RBI double. In the fifth Simon Guehring took advantage of an error to cross the plate for the tying run. The outcome was decided in the seventh. Philip Schulz reached with a bunt single, moved to third on a pair of groundouts and then scored through a RBI single by Boldt.

Boldt finished the contest with three hits, Guehring with two. Callum Murphy went 2-for-3 for the British squad. Klijn collected three hits. On the mound Maurice Wilhelm picked up the win in relief. Sascha Koch, Johannes Krumm and Max Schmitz also pitched for Germany. Daniel Cooper issued six hits, two unearned runs and a walk in five frames. Conrad Cornell got charged with the loss.
