The hosting nation successfully started into the European Championship. The Netherlands beat Great Britain 11-1 in seven innings on Friday evening. Three runs in the first and three in the third gave them an early 6-1 advantage. Five more ended the game due to ten-run rule. Great Britain scored its lone run in the second.
Gianison Boekhoudt and Kalian Sams gave the Dutch team a 3-0 lead in the first, when Boekhoudt doubled and Sams followed with a two-run home run. After the British team got on the board when Brett Rosen scored on a balk call in the second, the Netherlands added three more in the third. A solo home run by Dashenko Ricardo in the fifth and four runs in the sixth finalized the score.
Boekhoudt, Sams, Ricardo and Stijn van der Meer collected two RBI apiece. Sams crossed the plate trice. On the mound Diegomar Markwell conceded only two hits, an unearned run and two walks in six innings. Berry van Driel closed it out. Spencer Kreisberg gave up four hits, three runs and two base on balls in two innings to take the loss.
