Spain remains undefeated at the European Championship in Hoofddorp after the first round. On Tuesday morning they shut out France 6-0 for their fifth win in as many games. They will reach the final round as top seed from Group B with a 2-0 record and a pole position to advance to the Gold Medal Game. France meanwhile dropped to 2-3 and have to settle for the game for seventh place on Wednesday against Sweden.
After a scoreless first, Spain got up in front in the second thanks to a two-run triple by Luis Guillorme. One frame later they extended the advantage to three runs with a RBI single by Jesus Ustariz. A pair of errors and a RBI single by Daniel Martinez led to three more runs in the seventh and eighth, securing the victory. Norbert Jongerius and Maxime Lefevre had two hits apiece for the French team.
Meanwhile on the mound Leslie Nacar gave up five hits and four walks in six-plus innings, but no runs to pick up the win. Andres Perez and Ivan Granados closed out the shutout. Lucas Serafin conceded six hits, four runs (1 ER) and two base on balls in 6 2/3 innings to take the loss.
