At the European championship in Barcelona, two months ago, both teams needed eleven innings to determine a winner. On Friday it was a much easier win for the Netherlands. They beat Spain by a score of 6-2.
Holland scored twice in the first, fourth and seventh frame and was never in danger to lose the game. They placed well-timed hits and profited from some wilderness by the Spanish pitching staff. First baseman Sharnol ADRIANA hit a homerun. Dirk VAN’T KLOOSTER; Bryan ENGELHARDT, Tjerk SMETS and Rogeravin BERNADINA had the other four hits for the Netherlands.
Spain brought their lone runs in the eighth on the board. Ricardo RORDIGUEZ was responsible for both with a two-run-double.
Diegomar MAXWELL and Rob CORDEMANS pitched each four innings for the Dutch. Duko JANSEN completed the game.
Manny OLIVERA and Yoel HERNANDEZ split their time on the mound in the first six frames. Eric GONZALEZ and Fernando GUTIERREZ relieved them.
