Big news for a Dutch shortstop. This past weekend the New York Yankees traded for Mariekson “Didi” Gregorius to become the successor of the retired Derek Jeter. He gets traded as part of a three-team exchange, which also involves RHP Shane Greene going to the Detroit Tigers.
Born in Amsterdam, Netherlands, the 24-year-old Gregorius started his professional career with the Cincinnati Reds organization, where he reached the big leagues in 2012. In the following offseason he got traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Hindered by an injury and a below average performance against left-handed pitching he still made 183 appearances through two seasons with Arizona batting .241/.314/.368.

CURACAO shortstop. Not Dutch.
Gregorius never played even little league in Holland. He just did his first interview as a Yankee for the NY Post. All he could talk about was how great Curacao baseball is — not a peep out of him about Holland or being Dutch.
Wonder why baseball in The Netherlands can’t stand on its own two feet. It’s obvious players in Curacao and Aruba couldn’t care less about Holland and the Dutch.
Hey Fred,
Since you know EVERYTHING (and everything better)… Please explain me why Didi and all other members of the dutch team of 2011 (who are all not dutch and don’t care about The Netherlands according to your posts) were knightend by the Dutch King and not by… let’s say… the Queen of Aruba? Why did they attend the ceremony if it has no meaning to them?
Please explain it to me. I am looking forward to learn from you!
Thanks a lot in advance,
Mark
