Dutch Softball League starts into new Season



With doubleheaders on Saturday and a single game day on Monday started the 2009 season in the Dutch Major League Softball.

Saturday Games:
Sparks Haarlem – Tex Town Tigers 4-8, 6-4
Defending champion TEX TOWN TIGERS had to settle for a split in a rematch of last year’s finals against SPARKS HAARLEM. In game one the TIGERS scored six runs in the top of the seventh for an 8-4 win. Karin Tuk and Areke Spel hit homeruns for TEX TOWN. In the second match HAARLEM didn’t blow the lead and won 6-4. Rebecca Soumeru gave up four runs (3 ER) on eight hits in seven innings for the win. Marloes Fellinger hit a solo homerun.

Euro Stars – Centrals 4-5, 5-2
The CENTRALS scored four runs in the first three innings en route to a 5-4 win against the EURO STARS, which rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but failed to tie the contest. Amber Dammers had four hits in four at bats for the CENTRALS. In the second match the EURO STARS won 5-2  behind a three-for-three, two RBI performance by Manon Schol.

Robur ’58 – Gryphons 9-3, 1-13 (5)
In game one ROBUR scored seven runs in the first inning of a 9-3 victory against the GRYPHONS. Helma Pluim had three RBI for ’58. Maartje van Dijk drove in three for the guests. In the second match the GRYPHONS got payback and won 13-1 in five innings. Kate Robinson (3-3, 5 RBI) hit a three-run homerun, Claudio Kranendonk a grand slam. Robinson also struck out seven in five solid innings on the mound for the win.

Twins – Terrasvogels 1-3, 3-10 (5)
TERRASVOGELS, which introduced new main sponsor Iber Lengua on Tuesday, was the only team to sweep the doubleheader on Saturday. In game one Aimee Murch struck out six in seven innings, allowing one run on eight hits to lead the road team to a 3-1 win. Annemiek van Riessen went four-for-four with a RBI. Daisy de Peinder had three hits for the TWINS. In the second match TERRASVOGELS scored seven runs in the first two frames and ten in the first four en route to a 10-3 victory. Dana Horeman hit a two-run homerun.

Monday Games:
Centrals – Sparks Haarlem 0-7
SPARKS celebrated a two-hit 7-0 shutout against the CENTRALS on Easter Monday. Noemi Boekel drove in two. Saskia Kosterink and Jolanda Kroesen each scored twice.

Gryphons – Euro Stars 6-1
The GRYPHONS scored six runs on 14 hits in a 6-1 victory over the STARS. Kate Robinson went three-for-four with two RBI. She also picked up the second win of the season with six K’s in seven innings.

Terrasvogels – Robur ’58 13-0 (5)
TERRASVOGELS celebrated a successful home opener by scoring 13 runs in the first four innings in a 13-0 shutout in five innings against ROBUR. Annemiek van Riessen drove in four. Linda Hoenderdos and Dana Horeman each scored three times. Aimee Murch dominated with eight K’s in three perfect frames.

Tex Town Tigers – Twins 7-0 (6)
Lindsey Meadows threw a no-hit six-inning shutout to lead the TIGERS to a 7-0 win over the TWINS. She allowed just one walk, while striking out four. Virginie Anneveld and Meadows each drove in two.
