The 17-year-old Dutch pitcher Jeroen DE HAAS signed a contract with the Seattle Mariners organisation last week. The right-hander played for the second division team Heurones, in the northeast of Alkmaar.
DE HAAS will join training camp for the minor league teams of the Mariners next spring. Afterwards he returns to the Netherlands to finish school. He should see first game action in the instructional league in the second half of the year.
He joins four current Dutch players in the Seattle-based organisation. Wladimir BALENTIEN is on the triple A team, Kalian SAMS and Gregory HALMAN are in single A, and Ramon ROMEIJN is on the roster of the rookie league team.
