Dutch Playoffs: Kinheim reach Holland Series

Corendon Kinheim won game five 4-1 against Amsterdam on Sunday to clinch the berth. The Pirates had tied the series on Saturday with a 5-1 win. Corendon will play Konica Minolta Pioniers in the Holland Series, starting on Thursday.

Amsterdam Pirates – Corendon Kinheim 5-1 (2-2)
The game started fifteen minutes later under bad, rainy weather conditions. But both teams made the most out of it. Kinheim took the lead in the fifth frame, when René CREMER singled and Wouter HEEMSWERK reached home from third.
The Pirates were not shocked and scored five unanswered runs in the sixth and seventh inning. Sidney DE JONG tied it with a RBI-double. He raced home through Bas DE JONG’s RBI-single. Fausto ALVAREZ made it 3-1 after a throwing error of left fielder Denny BELJAARDS. They added two more runs later. Bas DE JONG hit another RBI-single. Zair KOEIMAN was hit by a pitch to force in a run.
Jos DE JONG started for Amsterdam. He pitched four-plus innings and allowed three hits, one run and two base on balls. Nick STUIFBERGEN (W 2-0) came in, closed out the game and got the win. He gave up only three hits and two walks in five frames. David BERGMAN (L 1-1) was responsible for six hits, three runs and two bb in 5 2/3 innings.

Corendon Kinheim – Amsterdam Pirates 4-1 (3-2)
Kinheim advanced to the Holland Series after stopping the Pirates-comeback on Sunday. Like 2006, Corendon will meet with Konica Minolta in the finals.
After Amsterdam tied the game 1-1 in the top of the fourth through a double play groundball, Vince ROOI scored the winning run in the bottom of the same inning for Kinheim. He advanced following a fielder’s choice ground out on second. ROOI scored two more times after an error in the sixth and a RBI-single of Tjerk SMEETS in the eighth.
Patrick BELJAARDS (W 1-1) pitched 6 1/3 innings and gave up three hits, one run and four walks. Kenny BERKENBOSCH (L 0-1) allowed six hits, four runs and three base on balls in 7 2/3 innings. Michiel VAN KAMPEN got his second save after pitching two perfect innings to end the game.
