DOOR Neptunus closes out Record Regular Season in Hoofdklasse

The regular season in the Dutch Hoofdklasse will end on Tuesday with a make-up game between ADO and L&D Amsterdam. Two days later the postseason is supposed to start with DOOR Neptunus taking on the Konica Minolta Pioniers, while Amsterdam faces Corendon Kinheim in the semi-finals.

DOOR Neptunus took the first seed with probably the most dominant season in Hoofdklasse history. They put up some impressive numbers this year (courtesy Neptunus website):

  • New league record with 39 wins (old mark: 38 in 1999 and 2002)
  • New club record with just three losses (old mark: 5 in 1989)
  • New league record with 23 straight wins (old mark: 18 in 1989)
  • 13 shutouts in 42 games
  • Pitching staff allowed just 78 runs all season long with a team ERA of 1.39
  • Leon Boyd, Diegomar Markwell, Dushan Ruzic and Kevin Heijstek picked up nine wins each
  • Leon Boyd allowed just five runs (3 ER) in 69.1 innings pitched for an ERA of 0.39 (league record: 0.35 ERA by Nol Beenders in 1973)
  • Neptunus now has a overall Hoofdklasse record of 862-327 (27 ties) in 1,253 games
