With Spring Training coming to an end, German first baseman/outfielder Donald Lutz made sure to left for Bakersfield Blaze (High-A) with an exclamation mark. Playing in the Reds Futures Game at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, he had a crucial two-out, two-run homerun off Mike Leake in the fourth inning to lead the Reds Futures to a 2-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds Major Leaguers. Zack Cozart hit a solo homerun for Dusty Baker’s team. Lutz went 2-for-2 overall, playing left field. Mariekson Gregorius also played in the game. He started a double play at short, but had no luck at the plate (0-3, 2 strikeouts). He is going to play for Jim Riggleman and the Double-A Pensacola Blue Wahoos to start the Minor League season.
