The Italian Baseball League club DE ANGELIS GODO acquired another piece in their pursuit for the playoffs. They signed the Dominican right-hander Emmanuel Ulloa to bolster the pitching staff. He joins Lino Connell and Felix Escalona as third new foreign player on the club.
Ulloa was born on November 26, 1987 in La Vega, Dominican Republic attended George Washington High School in New York (Manny Ramirez went to the same school), before being selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 21st round of the 1997 amateur draft. Interrupted by a short stint in the Atlantic League in 2004, Ulloa stayed in the American Minor League system until 2006, pitching for the Mariners, Montreal Expos and Colorado Rockies up high as Triple-A.
The past two years, Ulloa was back in the independent Atlantic League. In 2008 he had a 5-6 record with an ERA of 5.94 and 103 strikeouts (40 walks) in 122 2/3 innings for the famous Long Island Ducks. Overall he has a 59-53 record with an ERA of 4.32 in 327 games over eleven season professional baseball. He will form a battery with the Venezuelan Danilo Sanchez for the Italian team.
GODO played another exhibition game on Monday against REGGIO EMILIA. Escalona, not really known as a power hitter in his Major League days, hit two homeruns, including a grand slam.
