Curacao Neptunus Rotterdam defeated the Vaessen Pioniers 8-3 on Thursday evening in the Dutch Hoofdklasse. Diegomar Markwell pitched six solid innings for the win, allowing five hits, three runs (2 ER) and three walks. This line sounds average, but it turned out to be memorable anyways. It was the 100th win for the left-hander in the Hoofdklasse. Benjamin Dille supported his act with four RBI. Ricardo Hernandez took the loss.
Meanwhile Rob Cordemans and Tom de Blok led L&D Amsterdam to a 13-0 shutout, issuing just six hits, while striking out 14 in seven frames. Bas Nooij hit a grand slam. UVV scored two late runs in the bottom of the eighth to break a 2-2 tie in a 4-2 win over DSS. And HCAW and Corendon Kinheim settled for a 5-5 tie in 11 innings due to the curfew rule in the Netherlands. HCAW had tied the contest at 4-4 in the eighth and both teams scored in the tenth. Dashenko Ricardo hit a home run and drove in three for Kinheim.
The three-game series continue on Saturday at 2pm.
