Mariekson Gregorius is back in Major League Baseball. After an injury during the winter disturbed his preparation period, he was called up to the active roster of the Arizona Diamondbacks and played his first game for his new team on Thursday. It was a big one. The Amsterdam-born glove-first shortstop hit his first career home run (video) against New York Yankees starter Phil Hughes. He also had a double and finished the day with a 2-for-5 performance. The Diamondbacks eventually won 6-2 in 12 innings. Gregorius was traded to Arizona by the Cincinnati Reds this winter. He missed the World Baseball Classic because of the injury.
