DES CASERTA has won the Italian Softball championship. They beat FIORINI FORLI in games three and four last weekend to win the best-of-five series 3-1.

In game three Jennifer Davis (W 1-1) allowed just two hits and a walk in seven scoreless innings to lead DES CASERTA to a 1-0 shutout against FORLI. The lone run of the match was scored in the second frame on a RBI single by Giovanna Palermi. Kristina Thorson (L 1-1) issued just two hits, a run and a walk in six innings, but still had to take the loss. It was the third 1-0 game in the 2009 Italian Softball Series.

DES CASERTA didn’t waste any time to decide the outcome of game four, putting four runs on the board in the opening period en route to a 6-1 win. Piera Rezza highlighted the rally with a bases-clearing three-run double. Melissa Sanchez later added two more runs with a double. Lisa Birocci (W 2-0) gave up five hits, a run and a walk in seven innings. Leslie Malerich (L 0-2) surrendered four hits, six runs and four bb in six innings.
