Cuba with shutout against Netherlands in Korea

The Dutch Olympic Team, which is currently in South Korea to prepare for the upcoming Olympic Games, got shut out by Cuba on Sunday 0-10. Alfredo Despaigne had two hits in the first two periods, when the Caribbeans scored five runs for an early lead.

Starter Alex Smit (Cincinnati Reds organization) allowed five runs on four hits in the first 1 2/3 innings. The 18-year-old Juan Carlos Sulbaran (3.1 IP) relieved him, debuting for the Netherlands. Pim Walsma, Michiel Van Kampen and Loek Van Mil (Minnesota Twins) also pitched in the game for the Dutch.

Cuba played without Yulieski Gourriel, Alexei Bell and Ariel Pestano, who got the day off.

The Netherlands are playing two more warm-up games, one today against South Korea and one tomorrow versus Doosan. They are going to travel to Beijing on Wednesday and will play two more exhibition games on the Olympics site against Canada this weekend.
